Track bike wheels have to handle a specific set of demands that road wheels don't. There are no brakes to scrub speed and no freewheel to disengage under load. The wheel has to respond instantly to explosive sprints, hold up through banked corners, and stay stiff under sustained power output.
HED Track Bike Wheels
World-Class to World Records.
Track racing leaves no room for weak links. No coasting, no braking, no wasted effort. Every watt transfers directly through the drivetrain into the wheel.
HED track bike wheels are built for that demand, with stiff hubs, proven carbon aero profiles, and hand-built construction designed to perform lap after lap on the track.
The Jet Track Series uses the same rim technology developed for road racing and time trials, adapted for fixed-gear performance on the velodrome. Each track bike wheel is hand-laced and trued in our Minnesota build room using the same process trusted across every HED lineup.
What Makes a Track Wheel Different
How HED Designs Track Wheels for Performance
HED's track hub uses a bolt-on design with a stout shell and high flanges. High flanges increase stiffness by shortening spoke length, reducing flex under acceleration or through a sprint. Hub bearings are 6001 size, larger than most track hubs, which lowers rolling resistance and helps the wheel spin freely under load.
The carbon aero fairing bonds to a straight aluminum track rim base, cutting air resistance at the higher speeds common in velodrome racing, where every watt saved translates directly into faster lap times.
TC4, TC6, and TC9: Matching Rim Depth to Your Event
The Jet Track Series is available in three rim depths: 38mm (TC4), 60mm (TC6), and 90mm (TC9). Each depth comes from HED's road Jet lineup, with aerodynamics and stiffness proven across years of racing.
The TC4 at 38mm is the most versatile option and closest to a flat track wheel profile, suited for riders who want one setup for training and racing. The TC6 at 60mm balances aerodynamic efficiency with manageable weight, making it a strong all-around choice. The TC9 at 90mm is built for maximum speed in pursuit and time trial events.
Both front and rear wheels are available in any depth and can be mixed to match your event. A deeper rear wheel paired with a shallower front is a common setup, giving rear wheel aerodynamics without added weight up front.
FAQs
The Jet Track Series is available with or without a brake track. The standard version has no brake track and is not compatible with rim brakes, which is correct for most fixed-gear track setups. If you need rim brake compatibility, select the anodized black with CNC milled grooves option at checkout. If you are unsure which setup your bike requires, contact HED's team at (888) 246-3639 before ordering.
The front axle is 9x1 100mm threaded. The rear axle is 10x1 120mm threaded. The rear hub uses single-side fixed cog threading at 1.37 inches by 24 tpi, and the lockring uses 1.29 inches by 24 tpi left-hand thread. A spacer may be needed depending on your cog and frame combination. Contact HED to confirm what your specific setup requires. The lockring is not included with the wheel.
Maximum tire pressure is 80 psi. Do not exceed this limit on Jet Track wheels.
Yes. The Jet Track Series can be configured as a front wheel only, rear wheel only, or as a full wheelset. Select "None" for the wheel position you do not need at checkout.
HED Jet Track wheels are built with Sapim CX-Ray J-bend spokes in a 2-cross pattern. CX-Ray spokes have an aero blade profile, which reduces air resistance at speed while maintaining the stiffness a track wheel needs under sprint loads.
Yes. Every HED wheel comes with a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, and HED offers a crash replacement program if you damage your wheel in an accident. Questions about your specific situation can be directed to HED's team at (888) 246-3639 or through the contact page on the site.
